Roger, Boss. I think I've got it now: a method to reduce the need for jumpgates. From my point of view as a humble but avid reader of classic science fiction (though, when I read it, it wasn't, yet, called "classic"), your new server would then reflect a more "Asimovian" universe ... relying on hyperspace to get from one star system to another. Do I like it? Yes. Emphatically.
  2. Zane, This is really cool but way over my head. From what I can tell, though, if UC MP goes with this concept, we are all committed (maybe in more ways than one ). Anyone who implements this thing would need to be dedicated ... with a capital "D" ... to Universal Combat. I assume you plan to be here a long, long time? Or at least until you can find someone to take your place?
  3. Would there be just one planet/moon in this region? And the space around it populated with numerous starstations of different castes ... in much the same way that a planet's surface is populated with numerous bases, cities, and starbases?
  4. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: One thing I can probably do with minimum ease, is to have the server send a client's name, ship, rank, location and EPs to a webpage. Yes. If we can track and verify EPs after an on-line battle is over, everything else should fall into place.
  5. LOL, go get 'em, boss.
  6. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: quote:Originally posted by Marvin: at least, for those who have installed a copy of Universal Combat. Which, admittedly, is a drawback.Drawback? Please explain. It's a drawback for instructors who must still contend with cadets training via BCM or BCMG. Currently, Remo and Gordon are doing their best to resolve this issue for some of the more active cadets in the Fleet.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Cc: ... but there is no Neutral Zone in the UC universe. Better take another look at that multiplayer galaxy map ... and the newly labeled jump gate for Galadran.
  8. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: quote:Originally posted by Shingen: and Chavik was locked in hyperspace in my VDD, enough though he saud he wasn't in hyper. He was also jumping around the screen. He said that I was doing the same in his display, and jumping around as well. Once again. Read the VCF. Yes, Sir. It's the same problem: quote:11. If you are viewing a hyperspace target in the VDD and then receive another hyperspace info packet, the second packet will reset the previous packet, resulting in the client observing the hyperspace VDD target as still being in hyperspace when in fact it may have already emerged from hyperspace. But I, too, was surprised to see it crop up again. As of late, the servers have been very stable for space operations.
  9. Ahhhh, home sweet home.
  10. This post looks like very good news for the Academy. quote:From UC 2.00.09 Patch Release: This patch also contains the full and final tutorial for UC.After glancing at the completed tutorial, it looks like it can be adapted as a full-fledged Training Manual ... at least, for those who have installed a copy of Universal Combat. Which, admittedly, is a drawback. The other drawback being that it's 80 pages long (well, 79 if you don't count the SC's version of "This Page Intentionally Left Blank" ), which is a lot of ink. The best part is that it's comprehensive, covering a wide range of training subjects. I'm not sure how it would be graded, tho' ... perhaps just on a "Pass-Fail" basis, with cadets turning saved games over to their instructor for examination. Any thoughts, especially from instructors and cadets?
  11. Be Advised: Whenever XFire updates itself, it also re-sets the .INI file.
  12. quote:Originally posted by Vixef: Anyways... sorry for bringing this off topic, but was that the movie with Patric Swayze (or whatever his name is...)? Or am I waayyyy off target? I think it was Kris Kristoferson (sp?) ... and the Russian-looking actor from Jurassic Park.
  13. quote:Originally posted by Vixef: the difference between Amerika/America.Amerika was the title of a TV movie about how the Soviet Union took over the United States (of America).
  14. Hey, Chavik. If you're on this evening, we can try the following: 1. Enter Castrin from Tapestran gate and hold. I'll enter from Procon and hold. 2. In turn, fill six cargo pods and launch them into space. Put all your shield fuel in one of them and all your cloaking fuel in a second. In the other four, put anything else you'd like ... just as long as it has one item in it. 3. Leave all other power and manning options as they were when you entered the game. 4. On the signal, scramble your shuttles to retrieve as many pods, yours and mine, as possible ... while I do the same. See if one of us ends up with a major tactical advantage.
  15. Here. That's two from Gamma Wing.
  16. Yeah, best idea all day. Now that we've all breathed a collective sigh of relief ... Cheers.
  17. Figures. A couple months ago it was no game (yet) and nothing much to read at the forum. Now it's 12 hours in multiplay and four more hours to read all these new goodies at the forum. Feast or famine. That's all I gotta say.
  18. An oddly cool thing happened early tonight ... before the chaotic free-for-all. Right after launching to Server 4, I got a distress call from a GCV ship in need of help. I answered back and asked where he was stuck. "Procon," he replied but I couldn't see anyone on my Tac scope. So I directed him to send out a distress call. I still couldn't see him. After he explained that he was planetside, I went into TacOps, found him beaming out an SOS, and set waypoints. Before I could jump, an ICV player popped into the area and targeted me. Well, I figured I had better things to do so I continued down to the planet. But, before breaching the atomosphere, I warned the poor guy on the surface that he would probably experience lag ... affecting who-knows-what. Unbeknownst to me, the insurgent somehow second-guessed my intentions. Not more than a few seconds after I spit out below the clouds and locked on to the distressed ship, I got the klaxton. What surprised me is not so much that the insurgent showed up but that we were on the planet and seeing each other with zero lag. I spotted the stranded GCV right away and, at the same time, he called out a talley on me. When the ICV entered, we picked him up right away ... the GalCom commander thereupon demanded immediate rescue. And targeting was perfect. Not only did the insurgent get a proper faceful and flee the scene but the tow worked like a charm. If, after hauling him into space, the pilot hadn't accidently hit Alt+E, he would've survived to fight another day.
  19. What was it that Mark Twain said? Something about the rumors and exaggerations? Glad to see you back, Remo. Hope to sail with you on line real soon.
  20. My wife called me to start the barbecue. I explained it all, later, to Chavik ... who, thereafter, could've used your help.
  21. It probably breached the surface mesh. If it's underground, your systems can't see it and an AI shuttle can't recover it. It will still show up in the Tactical menu as a viable asset ... consequently, you can't replace it. The only solution I hadn't tried was to climb into a shuttle and try to recover it myself, using the SC's TLM Drones-Extract menu. Since having the problem, the saved game has been deleted and I've been more careful with deploying my mining drones.
  22. quote:Originally posted by jamotto: On the issue of being able to raise the shields w/o loosing the object being towed during a Hyper Jump. That wasn't a bug. It was a survival mechanism. Now that you brought it up, I suspect life in hyperspace is gonna get a little harder.
  23. Thank you, thank you, thank you. :bows humbly:
  24. If Pugwash would post the bitmap, instead, it should be pretty easy to change the colors using MS Paint (assuming the bitmap is clean ... the background needs to be all the exact same color of black).
  25. Kalshion, can you PM the FC? Or coordinate with Gordon to finish up this class of cadets? Maybe you can talk the SC into letting you conduct class here, temporarily. Hopefully, Remo is okay and it's just a busted computer or something that's keeping him from answering anybody.
